The Israeli newspaper Haaretz, which has daily Hebrew and English editions, is known for its solid reporting that often puts it at odds with dubious claims by the Israeli government and for its critical commentary on Israeli government and Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) claims.
Nora Barrows-Friedman has done a good job in questioning these unverified stories of sexual violence by the Palestinian resistance. She relates the eager willingness of the western media to uncritically accept these stories to a deep seated racism against Arabs and Palestinians in particular. She also relates this to Emmet Till and a past history of lynching African-American males because they were seen as a danger to the virtue of white women. Also Max Blumenthal has dug deep to find the originators of these stories within the Israeli security and propaganda apparatus. Not saying these incidents could not have happen, but so far I have seen no clear evidence and not one Israeli woman has stepped forward or been identified to confirm.
