Sunday’s elections in the eastern German states/provinces of Sachsen (Saxony) and Thüringen (Thuringia) at the current writing show the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) as the leading party but far from a majority, followed by the middle-right Christian Democratic Union (CDU) in second.
